SUMMARY
Due to Romario being more of a out and out striker and lacking any tactical versatility, his overall rating is low for a player of his magnitude. His mental frailties in terms of discipline and maximising the most of his ability have also taken a heavy toll.
Focusing on just his attacking prowess, he is undoubtedly one of the most clinical strikers of all time, with high attributes in terms of shot technique and composure. Quite simply a force of nature inside the penalty area. Having said that, he does struggle slightly in comparison to a Gerd Muller who scored in all types of big matches and was nigh on impossible to mark out of a game with only Elias Figueroa able to claim he had the upper hand. Romario in his pomp did struggle against Italian defences so this is worth bearing in mind.
In terms of athleticism, Romario was blessed with pace, balance and agility but his lack of dedication to training meant that his injury resistance and stamina took a hit although he deserves credit for his sheer longevity. His ball carrying was outstanding and that is underpinned by his unique physical structure and sheer explosiveness.. he was the striking equivalent of a Messi or a Maradona in this regard.
In conclusion an incredible predator who merits inclusion in the discussion for most dangerous strikers of all time.
